Micro-Commitments: The Small Step That Leads to Big Results

There’s a reason your subscribers go quiet.

It’s rarely because they don’t like you.

More often, it’s because they never got used to talking to you in the first place.

Most email marketers hit “send” and hope for a reply (or a sale) without ever earning the small “yes” that comes first.

That’s where micro-commitments come in.

A micro-commitment is a tiny action that requires little effort but builds connection, confidence, and momentum.

It might look like:

  • Clicking a one-question poll
  • Replying to share their biggest challenge
  • Downloading a short checklist
  • Tapping a “Yes, I’m in” button
  • Even just… opening your email three weeks in a row

These small asks lower the psychological barrier between you and your reader. And when someone’s already taken one small step, the next one (like booking a call or buying your offer) feels far less risky.

Start smaller and earlier in the relationship.

This week, with your email marketing, try this:

👉 End one of your emails with a single sentence asking for a low-effort reply.

Example: “I’m curious – have you ever tried [insert what you teach/specialise in]? Hit reply and just say YES or NO.”

You may be surprised at the replies. 😊

Introducing a Kit feature…

Conditional Content in Your Emails

Every email you send to your subscribers doesn’t need to be exactly the same for every reader; in fact, you should vary it where possible to make it as personal for them as you can.

This is where conditional content comes in, using something called ‘Liquid code’. It sounds more complex than it is, when really, it’s just a way of organising who sees what content in each email.

Let’s look at a simple example…

Below, is an image showing the type of conditional content you can send in your emails, using Liquid tags.

To be able to show you how it works, I had to screenshot the text, otherwise Kit would have tried to interpret the actual code and you wouldn’t see the bit that makes sense for you.

So, if you sent this to your list (i.e. the snippet in the image above), all subscribers with the tag ‘Workshop Registered‘ in their profile would see;

Here’s your Zoom link for Thursday’s live session!

And those without the tag, would see this;

Seats are filling fast! Click here to register for the live workshop.

(Btw, for both these buttons ☝️, Kit insists on a URL being placed under them, so if you click on either, you’ll just be taken to my website).

So, in essence, each subscriber will potentially see a different sentence and button combination, based on their profile tags.

Once you get your head around this feature, the possibilities are endless. Your mind will start to come up with creative ideas on how to use it.

Give it a go and do some testing to see how it looks for your subscribers – remember, you can use the ‘Preview as subscriber‘ button in the editor to see how your email will look for certain subscribers.

Let me know how you get on with it, and share any creative ideas you have on how you could utilise it in your emails – you may teach and inspire me! 😊

Tech you might find helpful…

ScreenFlow: The Easiest Way to Edit a Video (Even If You Hate Tech)

Let’s be honest – editing videos can take hours of effort and feel intimidating.

All those timelines, tracks, and buttons… it’s enough to make most solos avoid video altogether. 😳

But here’s the thing: if you can drag and drop a file into a folder, you can edit a video with ScreenFlow.

It’s my go-to tool for screen recordings, tutorials, and even quick social videos. It’s built for Mac, and it’s pretty simple to wrap your head around.

Here’s how to use it (the super simple way):

🎬 Step-by-Step: Editing Your First Video in ScreenFlow

Step 1: Record or import your video
You can record your screen + webcam directly in ScreenFlow (perfect for tutorials), or just import a video you recorded elsewhere (Zoom, phone, whatever). If you’ve ever watched any of my videos – that’s exactly how I created them.

Step 2: Trim the awkward bits
Just click where you want to cut → press ⌘ + T to “split” → then delete the bit you don’t want. Done.

Step 3: Add text or a logo
Drag a text box onto the video. Type your message. Resize it by dragging the corners. If you want your logo, just drag the file in. Job done…

Step 4: Export it
Click “File Export” and choose your format. The default is perfect for YouTube, social, or embedding in your emails or courses.

That’s it.

No fancy transitions needed, and no hour-long tutorials to watch.

If you’ve been putting off video because “editing is too hard,” I promise – ScreenFlow will change that.

Want me to show you how I use it to edit my own tutorials?

Hit reply and say “Show me ScreenFlow” – I’ll record a behind-the-scenes walkthrough for you.

Screenflow costs $169 as a one-off purchase. If you want to upgrade to newer versions (as they are released) you can, but it’s not mandatory (I’ve upgraded once in 5 years).

Ask me your questions…

Which Kit plan should I choose?

This is one of the most common questions I get asked, especially by people just starting out with email marketing.
