Email Marketing
The important correlation between ‘content marketing’ and ’email marketing’
As you’re probably aware, I love email marketing. Over the decades, I’ve started, grown, and even sold one business – all down to the success I’ve had with email marketing.
It’s the digital marketing channel with the lowest barrier to entry (free) and the most lucrative returns, widely accepted as exceeding 30 to 1 (i.e., for every $1 you invest, you can expect $30 in return).
But here’s the thing that some people miss…. email marketing cannot be successful in isolation – it needs content marketing to fuel it.
Trying to be successful with email marketing without having a good content marketing strategy in place is like trying to drive cross-country in your car without adding any fuel – you won’t get far!
Content marketing is what will grow your email subscriber list and keep you top-of-mind with your prospects.
Proven ways to create and run good content marketing include;
Creating regular content to share on social platforms (e.g. LinkedIn, Facebook etc.).
Sharing your knowledge via YouTube videos.
Write articles that can be found by Google searches (e.g. website blog posts).
Host regular webinars to share your expertise with your audience.
Create free mini-courses, PDFs, templates etc. to give away as ‘lead magnets’.
How is your content marketing?
Are you growing your email list with an effective strategy?
If not, you have great opportunities out there waiting for you!
Kit Feature
Adding a team member to your Kit account
Being a solo shouldn’t preclude you from engaging with others and even making them part of your team, even if only temporarily.
That’s why Kit offers the ‘Team‘ feature (under ‘Settings’), making it easy to add another user to your team.
Kit’s ‘Team’ feature where you can add a member to your account, either as an ‘Admin’ or ‘Editor’.
Why would you need to add a team member?
Well, it could be for any reason really, but mostly it’ll likely be so that they can assist you with your email marketing efforts.
Examples:
You’ve hired a copywriter to help you with your email content.
You’ve engaged with someone to help you with a tech challenge you have with Kit.
You’ve hired a graphic designer to rebrand your biz and refresh your images.
Your workload has increased and you want to invite a VA to your team.
Agency-type work
Although I don’t use the feature for this purpose, I know a few who do – it’s becoming a team member on many accounts and managing their email marketing via Kit on behalf of others, creating and scheduling content as a ‘team member’.
So, for example, if I ran an agency and wanted to manage, say, 20 clients – I would request each client add me as a team member to their Kit account, and I could then manage their email marketing without having to request access every time I have an update to apply.
P.S. As an aside, Kit has recently launched a beta version of an agency dashboard that integrates with your core Kit account. This app allows you to bring in all Kit accounts you manage and get a single view of the main KPIs. Who knows, this beta may become a fully-fledged feature of the platform one day.
How I use the feature in my biz
I typically work with between 4 and 8 one-to-one clients in any given month, helping them to design and build effective email marketing systems using Kit.
To make the process as seamless and easy as possible, they add me as a team member to their Kit account for the duration of the project.
This gives me complete access to everything I need to do and it makes their life easier because they don’t need to grant permission every time I have something to implement.
When doing client work, I can easily and quickly access each account using the account switcher option in Kit (see image above).
Someone I recommend
As a solo biz owner, I know the importance of having other helpful people in my world – and I recommend them to you so that you can also benefit from consuming their content to improve your business.

Xnapper – grab a lifetime license for just $10 while you can!
Something very meta about this screenshot – I took it using Xnapper! 😊
I love it when I come across a fantastically simple, yet powerful, tool – and with Xnapper, that’s exactly what happened.
If you’re not familiar with AppSumo, it’s a platform that was developed by entrepreneur Noah Kagan. Essentially, it provides a platform for new apps to be showcased and purchased (normally offered with a lifetime license) for a minimal investment.
This model works because it does two things well: it gives the app developers a leg-up when it comes to sales, plus it gives us solos a chance to grab a bargain, especially when it’s a great tool (which Xnapper is!).
So, what is Xnapper?
Well, it’s a screenshot-grabber tool that makes the most boring snippet look beautiful – e.g. in the image above, Xnapper added the gradient background, gave the corners a nice radius, and made it available as an easy-to-download png file.
I’m not affiliated with this product, I just think it’s a great little tool – especially for just $10!
